With less than a month until the start of the highly anticipated Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games we are going to take a look at how event organisers are planning on ensuring the safety of the 4,500 athletes, 1 million+ supporters and hundreds of workers throughout the duration of the competition.
There will be a large police presence throughout the entirety of the event, with over 3,000 police officers expected to be working during the games which also includes 2,000 officers from other forces, drafted into Birmingham to assist. For an increased level of security, specialist teams will be based at each and every venue, led by security co-ordinator inspectors who are specially trained in policing major events.
West Midlands Police, who have themselves stated that this is the largest operation in their history, will deploy officers from firearms and counter-terrorism in a bid to make this the safest commonwealth games on record. Drones will also be utilised for a birds-eye view of all activity in and around the venues. Traffic officers will also be in attendance, ensuring that roads around the venues are safe for pedestrians.
At Security Guards UK, we are delighted to announce that we are assisting event organisers by deploying a number of guards to different venues all around Birmingham and the West Midlands. This is an event that we are extremely proud to be a part of and we cannot wait till the launch of the games!
We would like to wish everybody attending the Commonwealth Games a safe trip and we will see you there!
