Gatherings of 6+ People Banned
Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced a ban on gatherings of more than 6 people in both public and private places from Monday 14 September. This announcement comes after a rapid rise in coronavirus cases and increasing concerns of a ‘second wave’.
Whilst gatherings of 30 people was previously allowed, from Monday 14th, it will be a finable offense for you to be in a group of more than 6, from your household or separate households. However, exceptions apply if you have more than 6 people in your household, or if your bubble is bigger for “work or educational purposes” eg. students at school or workers in the office. Weddings, funerals and organized sports team that are “covid-secure” will be allowed to go ahead with a maximum capacity of 30 people. The restriction only applies to those living in England, as Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are all setting their own coronavirus guidelines.
In the same government briefing, Boris Johnson further added that the Government will be introducing Marshals who will help to make sure that companies abide by the rules and regulations set out by the government.
“We will boost the enforcement capacity of local authorities by introducing covid-secure marshals to help ensure social distancing in town and city centres and by setting up a register of environmental health officers that local authorities can draw upon for support.” – Boris Johnson, Prime Minister.
